Just an update from a prior post.

I’ve finished The Binding of Isaac twice now. Calling that one complete, since it’s more of a pick up and put down game.

Waiting on patch 1.4 before I start up Skyrim again, I lost my save files and have to restart from scratch..

Dungeon Defenders is also in the category of Isaac. I haven’t finished it, but it’s a pick up and put down title.

Now that just leaves Bulletstorm. I am focusing on this game before I do anything else.

So far, it’s very fun, and a tiny bit challenging… mind you I am playing on a harder setting..

I think I’m on chapter 3.. not sure how long it is, but so far I am enjoying it.

What’s better than a PS3? That’s easy.. a FREE PS3.

I won a PS3 w/ Move and some games during our staff Christmas party. It was awesome.

So with the acquisition of this device, I also now have access to third and fourth installments of the Disgaea franchise.

I’ve been playing Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice. While it looks like it was coded for the PS2, it’s a nicely driven story.

Difficulty seems a little harder than the prior 2 games, but the fun factor is there in full stride.

I don’t have much else to say on this, since I’m not very far into the game.

With the recent defeat of SOPA/PIPA in the USA, everyone thought things would be ok.. at least for a bit.

Now I wake up today and see an article posted on Slashdot. The Canadian government is being fucking stupid and trying to make a version of SOPA for us.

This is a load of shit. No one has the right to police the internet. They take away our freedoms of use and there will be an uprising, this I can promise.

Michael Geist has an article on his site that is very informative. Here’s his information on the topic at hand.

The Internet battle against SOPA and PIPA generated huge interest in Canada with many Canadians turning their sites dark (including Blogging Tories, Project Gutenberg Canada, and CIPPIC) in support of the protest. In writing about the link between SOPA and Canada, I noted that the proposed legislation featured an aggressive jurisdictional approach that could target Canadian websites. Moreover, I argued that the same lobby groups promoting SOPA in the U.S. are behind the digital lock rules in Bill C-11.

While SOPA may be dead (for now) in the U.S., lobby groups are likely to intensify their efforts to export SOPA-like rules to other countries. With Bill C-11 back on the legislative agenda at the end of the month, Canada will be a prime target for SOPA style rules. In fact, a close review of the unpublished submissions to the Bill C-32 legislative committee reveals that several groups have laid the groundwork to add SOPA-like rules into Bill C-11, including blocking websites and expanding the “enabler provision”to target a wider range of websites. Given the reaction to SOPA in the U.S., where millions contacted their elected representatives to object to rules that threatened their Internet and digital rights, the political risks inherent in embracing SOPA-like rules are significant.

The music industry is unsurprisingly leading the way, demanding a series of changes that would make Bill C-11 look much more like SOPA.

For example, the industry wants language to similar to that found in SOPA on blocking access to websites, demanding new provisions that would “permit a court to make an order blocking a pirate site such as The Pirate Bay to protect the Canadian marketplace from foreign pirate sites.” Section 102 of SOPA also envisioned blocking of websites:

A service provider shall take technically feasible and reasonable measures designed to prevent access by its subscribers located within the United States to the foreign infringing site (or portion thereof) that is subject to the order, including measures designed to prevent the domain name of the foreign infringing site (or portion thereof) from resolving to that domain name’s Internet Protocol address. Such actions shall be taken as expeditiously as possible, but in any case within 5 days after being served with a copy of the order, or within such time as the court may order.

The music industry also wants Internet providers to be required to adopt a termination policy for subscribers that are alleged to be repeat infringers. According to the industry document:

To incent service providers to cooperate in stemming piracy by requiring them to adopt and reasonably implement a policy to prevent the use of their services by repeat infringers and by conditioning the availability of service provider exceptions on this being done.

This demand would move Canada toward the graduated response policy that could result in loss of Internet service for Internet users. There is no indication in the music industry document of due process or even proof of infringement.

Several lobby groups also want language similar to that found in the infamous Section 103 of SOPA. That provision, which spoke of sites “primarily designed or operated for the purpose of…offering goods or services in a manner that engages in, enables, or facilitates” infringement, raised fears that it could be used to shut down mainstream sites such as YouTube.

According to the music industry document, Bill C-11′s “enabler provision” should be expanded to include “services that are primarily operated to enable infringement or which induce infringement.” Those demands are echoed by the Entertainment Software Association of Canada, which called on the government to “amend the enabling provision to ensure that it applies to services that are “designed or operated” primarily to enable acts of infringement.” Both groups also want statutory damages added to the enabler provision so that liability can run into the millions of dollars for a target website.

Just as there are questions whether SOPA is even needed in the U.S. (the takedown of Megaupload suggests that current laws are effective), the same is true with the enabler provision in Bill C-11, given that the music industry is already suing IsoHunt, the Canadian-based torrent search site, using current law. The expansion of the enabler provision to include sites that operate to enable or induce infringement could extend far beyond so-called “pirate sites”, since many user generated content sites (such as YouTube) and cloud-based service sites can be said to enable or induce infringement, particularly in a country like Canada that does not have a fair use provision.

As for the government’s plans, C-11 committee member Dean Del Mastro specifically referenced changes to the enabler provision in a recent interview about potential changes and there are rumours that the U.S. government is pushing the Canadian government to toughen the enabler provision (while keeping the digital lock rules unchanged). That suggests that just as the U.S. is moving away from SOPA in its own laws due to the political uprising against it, the Canadian government may be headed toward a similar quagmire as the U.S.-backed lobby groups lead it down a politically risky path.

Personally, I will not stand for such nonsense as any act that would hinder our rights as Canadians of freedom. Now, with that said, I do agree that something should be done to deal with piracy, be it music, games or videos. But on the other hand, people wouldn’t pirate as much if things were more affordable. Why should we spend $60 bucks on a game for 4-5 hours of play, just to take it to somewhere like EBGames, for them to give us $8 and they turn around and sell it for $50?! That’s petty theft right there.

It’s a two-way street. If people want piracy to stop, then give us a quality lengthy product that’s worth shelling out $50-60 bucks for.

And if I choose to waste my day on sites like 4Chan or Newgrounds.. that’s MY choice, not the governments. They have no right to police that shit.

First up on my list of things I’m currently playing.

Dungeon Defenders, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bulletstorm and The Binding of Isaac.

Here’s my initial opinions on these 4 titles.

Dungeon Defenders.

I’ve never been one for tower defense games, but this one is ridiculously fun! 4 classes (Tank, Ranged, Caster, DPS), traps and a very unique weapon system that reminds me of Disgaea (being able to level/power up items).

Only a few hours played and I’m thoroughly enjoying this one.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I used to play other RPGs, then I took an arrow to the knee. Seriously. The Elder Scroll series has always been one of the best RPG series out there. I don’t have to touch more on this right now. Only level 20, but I kind of stopped playing due to Christmas, now I can’t remember what I was doing or where I am.. so about to start over. Which is alright, since I just finished watching Game of Thrones and need my fantasy fix.

Bulletstorm

Just started this one about an hour ago. Amazing story telling and graphics. Time will tell if this title holds up or flops.

The Binding of Isaac

Think of the original Legend of Zelda game for the NES, now add one of the most messed up stories imaginable. That’s Isaac. I’ve finished this once, but have 2 more playthroughs to get through. It just keeps getting sicker and more demented each time you play.. and it’s totally random too!

So that pretty much covers what I’m playing right now. I’ll post more on these titles as I progress a little further.

Rise from the grave and live! … maybe.

So I’ve been M.I.A for over a year, doubtful that anyone still reads this blog.

Anywho.. new year, new ideas. Time to reinvent this bitch.

I am no longer playing WoW, I’ve been clean and free for over a year now. Done with MMOs (at least till there is something worth playing).

So here’s the plan. I have quite the collection of titles of games backlogged due to only playing MMOs. Now I’m going to sit down and play through them, one by one.

I will then write up a little review on what I thought. I know, that’s not an original idea, but who cares. It’s my blog and I’ll write what I want.

And that’s that. If you want to hear my opinions on games, feel free to read away.

Ok just for the record, no. This blog is not dead. I’m just really lazy with updating it.

Firstly, if anyone does actually read this, you’ll notice there’s no longer the .com, money is tight, things had to be cut.
Next up.. I’ve been pretty sick lately. So dealing with that. Now for everything else..

Still playing WoW. But also playing Borderlands, Torchlight & Left 4 Dead 2. Waiting on Bioshock 2.

I’m part of a podcast. Listen to it.

I’m planning to start drawing again, so I’ll eventually get around to posting some artwork, either here or on my DA or Tumblr. I’ll let you know.
This MAY include a webcomic. But no promises.. it’s been YEARS since I’ve drawn, need some practice.

As for this blog, not sure what I really want to do with it, but it’s nowhere near dead.
You want any updates or info.. check my Twitter.

Peace out, have a good 2010.

Yesterday, it was revealed that 10,000+ Hotmail accounts were compromised and all of the usernames and passwords of these accounts were posted online. It was a major security and scam issue, but it was thought to only affect Hotmail users.

Unfortunately, Hotmail was only the beginning. GoogleGoogleGoogle has now confirmed that thousands of GmailGmailGmail accounts were compromised by an “industry-wide phishing scheme.” According to the BBC, the login data of over 30,000 Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Comcast, and Earthlink accounts have been posted online.

Google’s already taken action on the list, forcing password resets on the affected accounts. They also stress that it’s not a breach of security, but the result of certain users falling for phishing scams. The lists of emails have been removed from the web, but many scammers have surely downloaded these compromised lists by now.

Remember to protect your email accounts: change passwords frequently, check for any odd behavior, and never use the same password on multiple web apps.

Looks like it’s finally live! Here’s what to expect.

World of Warcraft PTR Patch 3.2.2

The latest test realm patch notes can always be found at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/test-realm-patchnotes.html

The Brood Mother Returns
After years of lurking in her lair battling the many brave adventurers who travelled from afar to challenge her, Onyxia returns stronger than before to commemorate World of Warcraft’s five-year anniversary.

    * Onyxia has been scaled to offer new challenges to level 80 players and is now available for testing in 10- and 25-player modes.
* Adjusted for modern raiding, but with the fundamental experience of fighting the Brood Mother still in effect, including the horrors of her Deep Breaths!
* Onyxia will now drop level 80 item versions of some classic loot items from the level 60 encounter.
* Brood of Onyxia, a very rare 310%-speed mount modeled after Onyxia herself will be available for the luckiest of challengers.

General

    * Armor Penetration Rating: The amount of armor penetration gained per point of this rating has been reduced by 12%.
* Copied Test Realm characters will no longer be copied with their achievement history in order to better facilitate the character copy process.

PvP
Battlegrounds

    * Players level 11 and higher will now always see a daily Battleground quest, as the quest giver will only offer daily quests for a Battleground in which a player is eligible to participate according to level bracket (i.e. players levels 11-20 will always be offered a Warsong Gulch daily quest, while players levels 11-50 will be offered either an Arathi Basin or a Warsong Gulch daily quest, etc.).
